 This week's Craft of the
Week features a fun and easy activity, Oatmeal Soap on a Rope. Ever wonder what to
do with those little pieces of soap, those hotel bars of soap your kids love to bring
home? Well, this is the craft for you! You can add oatmeal to create an old
fashioned oatmeal soap or if you use cornmeal (in the same amount as the oatmeal) you'll
have a pumice soap- great for those tough skin areas!! This would make a terrific gift for
Mother's Day or Father's Day!What you need:
½ cup of either oatmeal or cornmeal
- ½ cup of soap crumbs
(broken small pieces or hotel bar sized soap)
- 1-2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1-2 Tablespoons of water
- Rope- 6 inch piece of rope or cord with a knot tied at the
end of it
What you do:
Take the soap and oatmeal and
place in your blender. First blend and then using the pulse option, pulse until the
mixture becomes fine.
- Put the soap and oatmeal mixture in a large deep bowl.
Add both the oil and water. Using your hands form a ball out of the soap/oatmeal
mixture. Using your index finger make a 1/8 inch depression.
- Place your cord with the knot part in the depression.
Bring the 2 sides of the small depression and "bury" the cord into the ball of
soap. Let the soap dry for about 24 hours, then take a bubble bath!!

Substituting
Ivory Soap Chips
From: R.
& L. SOBOL
Thank you for this craft, I had so much enjoyment making this with my
child. I substituted ivory soap chips straight from fresh soap bars and improvised a
bit and the results were fabulous...some of the best soap ever! My three year old
had a great time!
"Good
hygiene" theme for preschool class
From Lisa:
I made the oatmeal soap on a rope with my preschool class ages 3-4....Our theme for the
month is good hygiene, so this was a prefect craft. My children and I made a bathtub and
shower to put up on our wall then we decorated people and put them inside the bathtub then
we made the soap....Thanks for all the wonderful craft ideas you have Lisa
