The Sibling
Society
by Robert W.
Bly

Poet and storyteller Robert Bly takes the baby boomers to task in this highly
charged exposure of midlifers' values. Having become jaded by the abuses of authority, the
boomers of North America have torn down the traditional hierarchy within their families
and within their communities. What's left is a "cultural flatness," says Bly,
where adults cling to self-absorbed adolescent values, television talk shows have more
clout than elders, children are spiritually abandoned to fend for themselves, and in the
place of community we have built shopping malls. As always, Bly relies on mythology,
legends, and poetry to illustrate the morals of his stories. Ultimately this is a hopeful
piece of work, nudging midlifers to take on the responsibilities (and therefore the
rewards) of adulthood. The 7 Secrets of
Effective Fathers
by Ken R. Canfield

Five years of research conducted by a noted national research and counseling
organization form the basis for this insightful, applicable book. Drawing on profiles of
over 5,000 fathers nationwide, The 7 Secrets of Effective Fathers presents valuable
guidelines for fathers to strengthen their family roles. Using techniques that have worked
effectively in other families, fathers can overcome barriers in relationships with their
children and understand themselves in relation to other fathers. The essential insight and
counsel found here will help a man become the father he wants to be for his children.

Iron
John: A Book About Men
see books by Robert Bly

is a wonderful book that I've had for a few years in hardcover that I tend to reread every
once in a while. It's a great "jump start" for the soul. It tells a story as
abstracted from an ancient legend with practical applications for the men of today.
Definitely worth buying for your personal library.
