This
week's Dessert of the Week is brought to us by Tammi Daquila. Her favorite Grandma's
Oatmeal Cookies were her grandmother's special recipe Tammi remembers enjoying throughout
her childhood. Here's a little more about Tammi:
Hi Sue,
My name is Tammi Daquila, I live in Spokane, WA. I'm 36 years old, married, have 7
year-old twins named Bianca and Vanessa. I'm pregnant with another girl, due to have a
C-section on May 12. The recipe is my Grandma's. I remember every time we went to
Bremerton to visit, she would have a can full of oatmeal cookies. Grandma and Grandpa bred
Arabian horses and rode in horse shows until Grandpa died. Now Grandma just has a few
horses and has donated property to her congregation and they built a church where her
arena used to be. I don't see her as often as I did when I was a kid, but it is still a
special treat that we look forward to.
Thanks,
Tammi
What you need:
- 3 c. Old Fashioned Oats
- 1 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. water
- 10 Tbsp. oil
What you do:
- Measure all ingredients into a large bowl and stir with a
wooden spoon. As with the measuring, it is not necessary to be precise. In fact, it is one
of the things that makes these cookies so yummy- to bite into a lump of brown sugar.
- Add chocolate chips, walnuts, raisins, M&Ms or anything
else you want. These cookies turn out better if you aren't precise about your measuring.
- Using a teaspoon drop dough onto a ungreased baking or
cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Let cool for 2 minutes on sheets and then remove to a
cooling rack.
Santa's Chocolate Sleigh Bell Cookies
This week's Dessert of the Week features craft author Willie
Ripple's delicious recipe. These cookies, along with hundreds of other terrific Christmas
ideas can be found in her latest best selling book Christmas Parties What Do I Do?. It's
great fun to poke each cookie ball with a toothpick, then dip into the chocolate mixture.
Watch their eyes as you hold the cookie up over the double boiler to let the excess
chocolate drip off. Make a large supply, because they will go fast. |
