This
week's Craft of the Week features Shamrock Luck Charms. These neat little
decorations are terrific to make your house festive for the day of green.
Place the charms on door
knobs, on windowsills, any where you'd like to see them.
What you need:
- Paper
- Pencils
- Plastic cup-small
- Scissors
- White craft glue
- Paper towels
- Green food coloring
- Rice
- Bowl-medium size
- Water
- Green or white strong, sturdy posterboard
- Hole punch
- Green yarn
What you do:
Using the plastic cup, turned upside down, trace three circles in
the shape of a shamrock. Don't forget to include a stem- don't make the stem too
thin.
- Cut out the shamrock pattern and use this as a template for
your Shamrock Hangers. Using a pencil trace a shamrock onto the posterboard, cut out
with scissors.
- A day before you plan on making this craft color your rice
green by placing the rice in a small amount of water. Add a few drops of green food
coloring . Let it soak until desired shade of green has been reached. Drain off the
water and let the rice dry on paper towels.
Punch
a hole on the top of the prepared shamrock. Later you will string a piece of green yarn
through this. After the rice is completely dried , put some white glue onto the shamrock-
spread a thin put even layer of glue all across the shamrock, be careful to avoid the
hole.
- After the shamrock is covered with the glue sprinkle the
colored rice onto the shamrock. Make sure to leave the shamrock lying flat so that
when the glue dries all the rice will stay in place. It's best to wait overnight.
- String a piece of yarn about 4-6 inches long through
the hole and tie the two ends together. You now have your good luck charm!
