This Craft of the Week features Fashionable Glass Pins. The beauty of these pins is that they are made from previously used lens from glasses and greeting cards. This craft answers the question "What can I do with all these old cards?"

recycle.gif (2651 bytes)pinmaking.jpg (5210 bytes)You can make this as a gift and you'll have a lot of choices when you have old pairs of glasses - the shapes can be wonderful.

When choosing your felt for this craft you can be colorful and pick felt with some hue. Remember when placing your traced cut-out of the greeting card onto your lens to make sure the picture side is facing "out" and that the back of the pin has the non-picture side of your greeting card.

What you need

What you do:

  1. Look at the card you would like to make into a pretty pin. Choose the section that you would like to have as your pin picture. Take the lens and place onto your piece of felt and using the pencil trace the shape of the lens. You will be using this as your backing for your pin.Take the lens and place on the non-picture side of your greeting card. Trace the lens with a pencil. Using your scissors cut on the line you have traced.
  2. Using your hot glue gun attach the picture to the lens by putting a rim of hot glue around the lens's rim. Place the picture onto the rim, matching the shape.
  3. Wait a few moments to make sure the picture is attached to the lens. Now attach the felt to the back of the lens using your hot glue gun - you can place the glue around the rim of the lens and place a small dab in the center of the back of the picture to make sure the felt is secured.
  4. Attach your pin back using a permanent glue - place the glue onto the back of the pin and center onto the felt backing. Wait until the glue is entirely dried before wearing your pin.
