Related Ideas: Construction Paper Crafts
recycle.gif (2651 bytes)pp-logo.gif (2937 bytes)This is a simple idea that comes from Kathy Fogarty in San Diego. It is an easy craft that is perfect for little hands and can be adapted for holiday crafts. She says, "I have used this idea with my three year old daughter and it went really well. The paper plate (stained glass) craft came from a sample someone had made."

A little more about Kathy

colorsheetslogo.jpg (3566 bytes)I am a married, SAHM to Valerie (age 3) and to two small, yappety dogs (Yorkshires with puppy cuts).  We live in San Diego and we love to do crafts.

What you need

  • 2 paper plates
  • wax paper
  • ribbon
  • assorted colors tissue paper
  • glue stick

What you do:

  1. Cut the inner circle out of both paper plates
  2. Put the wax paper between the two plates & glue or staple into place
  3. Trim away excess wax paper so that the only part showing is in the center of the plates
  4. Tear the tissue paper into pcs & crumple them a bit (kids love this part!)
  5. Glue the crumpled bits of paper to the wax paper
  6. Poke a hole through both plates & thread ribbon through.
  7. Tie ribbon & hang this lovely (nonbreakable) stained glass type of decoration in front of a window
    Enjoy!

Rock Painting Idea
From Kathy
Another craft we recently enjoyed was rock painting.  I used a glue gun to glue the rocks into animal shapes & my daughter painted them.  I added the finishing touches and we made a turtle, a snail, an alligator and a whale.  When they had dried we sprayed them with water seal & they now adorn our rock garden.

Melted Crayon Jars
rosscrayjar2.jpg (12237 bytes)crayons.gif (4304 bytes)These jars are both pretty and useful containers for such things as flowers, pencils, and odds and ends. They are fun and easy to make and each one is different. Remember to keep your finished jars out of direct sunlight or the crayons will melt again.

Paper Mache Hot Air Balloon
valboxballoon.jpg (5311 bytes)This is a paper mache balloon which is an excerpt from Class Winning 3-Dimensional Valentine Boxes by Debbie Barnhill. We have pictures and illustrations to go with the craft as well as an interview with the author/creator Debbie Barnhill. It's a lot of fun, so don't miss it.
