find out more about SueMake a special shirt that you will enjoy making with your child and create a keepsake that will go on lon after Valentine's Day is over

What you need:

  • white T-shirt in your child's size
  • fabric paint
  • disposable plate for paint
  • sponge shape (heart) or create own from sponge
  • old shirt for your child to wear over her/his clothes

What to do:

  • Pour paint into plate. Dip heart- shaped sponge into plate and place onto T-shirt.
  • It might be a good idea to work with your child to decide the placement of the hearts before using paint.
  • This can be done by lightly sketching on the shirt with a pencil.
  • This might make things easier for your child because now she/he knows where to place the sponge.
  • If you want to change colors rinse the sponge under running water and squeeze hard to remove any remanining water.
  • You can really be creative with the design of this shirt.
  • You may want to overlap hearts in different colors or just have one large heart and use fabric paint in the tube to decorate it.
  • The possibilties are unlimited.
  • Remember you can cut different sized hearts from the sponges and have more than one size.

Making Felt
This week's Craft of the Week is brought to us by Janelle Hardy a homeschooling mom from Australia.   She has shared with us her technique to make felt- that wonderfully versatile and easy to use material.   This is perfect for Christmas and holiday ornaments and gifts. Making felt or felting, as it is called, is a great group activity.  This can be done in the classroom or in your neighborhood.   The kids will love it!!
