Faces of Home Education
The Entire World is OUR Classroom

joe2.jpg (4335 bytes)This is a new section which should be a lot of fun. I get so tired when someone NOT familiar with home education, says "What about socialization?"

The term "homeschooling" is really a misnomer because for a home educator the entire world is the classroom. Home education is not just sitting at a desk looking a musty text book.

Anyone who has been homeschooling for a while knows that. That is why we have this new section called "Faces of Homeschooling." We are interested in snapshots of people who homeschool engaged in activities OUTSIDE of the home.

Things like:

  • Musical recitals
  • Little league baseball
  • Funny snapshots from life
  • Trips to museums
  • Trips to exotic places

In addition to the picture, please write a caption of at least 50 to 100 words on what's going on in the picture along with your e-mail address. We might ask a question or two to supplement the picture and we hope to feature new pictures each week. Pictures can be sent electronically in JPEG format (photo@homeschoolzone.com) or you can snail mail them to:

If you want your picture returned please send your picture along with a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope).

We hope that this will not only be a fun idea, but a way to speak in pictorial form that home education is a true alternative education lifestyle with really interesting and fun people.

Help us make this a reality!!

Homeschoolers' Success Stories:
15 Adults and 12 Young People Share the Impact That Homeschooling Has Made on Their Lives
by Linda Dobson
buynow.gif (1537 bytes)
One of the most common questions homeschoolers face is whether or not their children will be able to function in "the real world." Now that the first children of modern homeschooling have reached adulthood, the effectiveness of homeschooling in preparing children to become successful, capable adults can finally be assessed. This book is an in-depth exploration of life after homeschooling through real lives instead of test scores. You will meet a cross-section of confident, well-educated men and women who were homeschooled as children--men and women who have achieved success on a variety of levels. You will see how they have grown up using the skills they first grasped as homeschoolers, combining life and learning in the world of higher education, business, art, religion, and more.

Meet the Author
Mary Leppert
Co-author of "Homeschooling Almanac 2000-2001"
gonext.gif (388 bytes)Interview & FREE Excerpt
leppert.gif (5626 bytes)She is a homeschool mom who along with her husband, Michael, have compiled a wonderful resource for homeschoolers. It is a resource guide for books, magazines, catalogs, prepackaged materials, cybersources, specific homeschooling methods, religious references and more. It also features over $1000 of FREE coupons which could easily pay for the purchase price. I have the opportunity to interview Mary and she took the time to share her views with us on the homeschooling movement and a bit about her personal life with her children. We are also featuring a very nice excerpt from her book which is entitled, What Kind of Learner is Your Child. I hope everyone gets a chance to look at closely and use this information to help you in your homeschool program. She is very frank and her answers and the excerpt are easy to read.
