![]() ![]() and is the mom of 4 homeschooled kids (2 graduated and 2 to go!). Her new book The explanations, resources, and
recommendations apply to families homeschooling for a wide variety of reasons and to
families who "afterschool" their children. If you find yourself teaching
subjects you know little about, undecided about what curriculum to choose, or concerned
that your children may miss out on band, drama, or sports, this guide provides practical
advice from an author who has homeschooled four children.About her daughter, Jacinta, she says:
One picture shows her stenciling fish and sea life on the walls of her bedroom. We had been helping her find resources for studying the ocean for about a year and a half when she and I decided to redecorate her room.
Another picture is an "after" picture of her room, showing the bedspread we found that looks like a shell-covered sandy beach. Also included are a picture of Jacinta with a collection of shells and such at the Van Andel Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which we visited with our family and an uncle and aunt. Another is of some figurines she painted (seals and dolphins) at her ceramics class. We love interest-based immersion learning! Craft-of-the-Week & Kathy Ross present... ![]() Kathy Ross presents this craft & poem and
says, "As for parties, the sea star would make a great invitation and the projects in
the book would make impressive decorations hanging from the ceiling and decorating the
table. I always think that making a craft is a great party activity."
This week's Craft of the Week is making an aquarium. This is featured in the fish section or theme of Pam's book which also includes other terrific "fish" activities and related books that help kids explore the world of fish. This is a terrific
project for all those shells you have been collecting this summer. Try to use large and
deep shells to make the candles- they will work best to hold the paraffin most
effectively. These candles are excellent to accessorize your house and make fun gifts.
