Interview & FREE Excerpt
They
have compiled a wonderful resource for homeschoolers. It is a resource guide for books,
magazines, catalogs, prepackaged materials, cybersources, specific homeschooling methods,
religious references and more. It
also features over $1000 of FREE coupons which could easily pay for the purchase price. I
have the opportunity to interview Mary & Michael and they took the time to share their
views with us on the homeschooling movement and a bit about their personal life with their
children. We are also featuring a very nice excerpt from their book which is entitled, What
Kind of Learner is Your Child. I hope everyone gets a chance to look at closely and
use this information to help you in your homeschool program. They are very frank and their
answers and the excerpt are easy to read.
Meet the author - Grace Llewellyn
"The Teenage Liberation Handbook
"Internships & Apprenticeships"
Whenever a discussion ensues about
homeschooling, and especially unschooling, in our many discussion groups, Grace's name
always comes up along with her landmark book. Grace Llewellyn is a former middle school
English teacher, the director of Not Back to School Camp, the founder of the Genius Tribe
resource center and mail order catalog, and the editor of two other books on unschooling.
She has graciously permitted us to reprint part of Chapter 33 which deals with Interships
and Apprenticeships and also agreed to "hang around" and answer our questions.
This is a rare treat and I hope you enjoy it.

This
is a real tour-de-force in terms of the extensive material it covers with wonderful text
and pictures. Despite its incredible volume and depth, it is accessible to the reader
because it is written almost as if it were a series of magazine articles taking you
through 100 years of US history. For many of our readers who are homeschoolers, each of
the bite-size pieces would make a wonderful jumping off point for a discussion or a
research report for your children. Featured in the FREE excerpts are two articles about
the Cold War and The Civil Rights Movement.

by Shari Henry

Parents and educators often view a child's middle years as the 'magical'
years--when innate talents and abilities really begin to flourish. They have reached the
stage where they understand the fundamentals of most subjects and are still excited to
learn more. Homeschooling: The Middle Years helps parents make the most of their
children's crucial middle years by providing exciting ideas and activities that cultivate
each child's individual interests.
