Introduction Joe: I’d like to welcome Michele Borba to our interview here on the Zone. She is a former classroom teacher and an internationally recognized educational consultant in strengthening children’s self-esteem, achievement and motivation. She is the author of numerous publications including Esteem Builders, which is read by over 1,500,000 students worldwide. As a mother of three teenage sons, she has practical experience and in her book, *Parents Do Make a Difference, she shows you how to teach kids the eight indispensable skills using step-by-step practical ideas and real-life examples. She also is the author of Self-Esteem: A Classroom Affair* and Esteem Builders. It is my pleasure to introduce Michele Borba and to ask her a few questions for everyone to enjoy and to learn from. Thanks for stopping by, Michele. Michele: Thank you for having me today. Joe: How did you come to write your book about helping kids succeed? Michele: I was in a bookstore one day trying to find a book on how to help kids be more successful. Every book about success was written for adults! I thought: Why wait until adulthood to learn how to be successful? Kids need to learn the skills of success now so they will become lifelong habits. I have an extensive background in children’s self-esteem and years of training to more than half a million program participants where I outlined a step-by-step approach to cultivate children’s self-esteem, achievement and motivation. I committed myself to writing a book on how to raise successful, decent kids filled with practical and proven activities. It became Parents Do Make a Difference. Joe: One of the interesting things about your book is that it gives parents a roadmap on how to proceed using a step-by-step approach. You break the child’s talents into a list of skills that helps the parent to focus on individual strengths and weaknesses. Could you tell us more about this system?
