Braised Chicken with Vegetables
 Braised
Chicken with Vegetables is a delicious and healthful recipe that the whole family will
enjoy. Braised Chicken with Vegetables is a Chinese dish that can be created in everyone's
kitchen. There is long standing medical research that indicates Asian
cuisine to be very beneficial. This recipe came from Winingnear family, who
say, "This is a recipe I came up with as a result of a little give and take on an
already present Chinese recipe for pork. I do not eat a lot of pork and was on a diet at
the time I came up with this alternate version. I also added a hint of my own cooking in,
to make it more than just a meat substitution. So here it is, enjoy."Asian Spinach
Spinach is a highly nutritious and diverse veggie can be
served in many delicious recipes. It stands well alone, or in combination with other
ingredients to make a savory entree. Spinach is full of the nutrient folic acid,
which is critical for women who are planning on becoming pregnant or who are already
pregnant. For those who are not expecting a child, spinach is loaded with other minerals
and fiber that we all need to maintain good health.
Diane's Sweet & Sour Ham
 This recipe
comes from Diane and is an easy-to-make medley of ham, green peppers, pineapples and
spices that are sure to please your family. Diane says, "I have been making this
recipe ever since I can remember and all my family loves it. I can't remember where the
recipe came from as I have been married 44 years and the recipe may be nearly that old. We
now spend our summers in the western hills of Massachusetts and our winters in
Brownsville, Texas.
Spinach & Mushroom Stir Fry
This very easy and delicious dish is very
satisfying as a lunch and coupled with a grilled chicken breast and rice makes a perfect
dinner or it is good all by itself. I use fresh spinach and button mushrooms. The
amounts of ginger and garlic for this recipe can be adjusted to your taste.
Potstickers (Chinese Dumplings)
Potstickers are delicious Chinese
dumplings that can be served as an appetizer or entree. I make them every New Year's Eve
along with fried rice and they are practically gone when I sit down to eat ! They are that
good. My local Chinese restaurant creates heavenly potstickers which are steamed and I
believe these are very close to their delicious bundles of heaven. I hope you enjoy these
as much as my family does.
Spicy Beef

Dr. Larrian Gillespie has developed a way for women to eat to stay fit, sharp and lose
weight and keep it off! Dr. Gillespie has been the first to recognize that women have
different nutritional needs - we use foods differently and need to eat differently than
men. Her recipe Spicy Beef comes from her book The Goddess Diet. This stir-fry dish
can easily be made for dinner and enjoyed by the entire family - especially the men!

The Wisdom of the
Chinese Kitchen:
Classic Family Recipes for Celebration and Healing
by Grace Young, Alan Richardson

Each chapter opens with an essay intertwining biographical stories with
information about Chinese food and healing. The blending of culinary information and
cultural observations is powerfully realized, perhaps because Young shows old-fashioned
respect along with a contemporary perspective. |
