suexmas100.jpg (12433 bytes)This week's Cookie of the Week brings us a new and exciting way to share cookies without all the fuss.  Want to send cookies, but no time to make them?   Well, all you have to do is assemble these simple ingredients in an inexpensive wide mouth quart jar and presto you are sending cookies!

go to our christmas pageThis Gift Jar is the perfect way to say Happy Holidays in a warm and fun way.
Pick festive fabric to cover the jar's lid and maybe use a little raffian or cord to tie around the lid to give the whole gift an old fashioned look.   Write the recipe for these yummy chocolate chip cookies on pretty paper and attach to the lid using the cord.

What you need:

  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour mixed
    • with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
    • and 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or other favorite nut

What you do:

  • Layer the above ingredients in the order given, making certain to pack down each layer firmly and clean inside of the jar with a paper towel after each layer.

Recipe to be included
with the Gift Jar:

  1. In large mixing bowl, cream together 2/3 cup of softened butter or margarine., 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of water and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla until light and fluffy.
  2. Add contents of the gift jar and mix well.
  3. Drop  by rounded teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.

    This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies

Brownies in a Jar Gift

All you need is a one quart jar that you can pick up at your local craft store.  Just take the ingredients for the Double Fudge Brownie Mix and fill the jar.  You can make the jar festive by using a colorful ribbon to tie on the recipe instructions along with a note from you.  Using a small piece of material you can also cover the lid of the jar add the ribbon and you have "wrapped" your gift!
