Here's a handmade gift that dad is sure to love. He can wear it all
year long and be reminded of how much he is loved! It is a great gift for Christmas, Father's Day,
Mother's Day or when you just want to
make that special keepsake treasure that
you know dad will use. What you need:
- White plain tee shirt in dad's size
- Fabric paint
- Pencil
- Cardboard
What you do:
- Prewash the tee shirt.
- When dried sketch what you would like to include on the
shirt.
- Place the piece of cardboard inside the shirt for support
(leave it inside when using the fabric paint).
- It can be pictures of dad's favorite things (fishing pole,
for example). You can also write "World's Favorite Dad".
- Don't forget that the shirt has both a front and back!
- After you have drawn what you want to include use the fabric
paint to decorate.
Ideas from you
"My kids
walk all over me!"
From: Wade Lamping
I just wanted to add a little
tid-bit to the father's day t-shirt ideas... I saw a cute shirt in a crafts magazine that
had the kids sponge paint onto their feet and step on a clean, pre-washed t-shirt - with
their names and ages written in fabric paint underneath the foot prints. Then, in the
center of the shirt, they wrote..."My kids walk all over me!" I thought it was
pretty cute! Thanks for all the great craft ideas - keep up the good work! jen
Two hands and a
heart
From: The Johnson's
A few years ago, my girls made sweatshirts for their grandparents. I had them use
fabric paints and place both hand prints on the front. Once the prints were dry, I wrote
their name and age in their hand prints. In the area up close to where a front pocket
would be, I wrote: "My Grandchildren touch more than my (heart picture)" These
shirts were a huge hit. Both sets of Grandparents still wear these and have requested
up-to-date ones.
Class Projects -
Bring your own shirt!
From: Kathy Ross, craft author
I always had the kids bring
their own shirt to do. We used the fabric crayons. They drew the picture on a sheet of
paper and then transferred it with an iron. The picture can be detailed by using fabric
glue to add a couple craft jewels, little bows, whatever. The price is right!
Get Well T-Shirt

We did a project like this for a different reason and in a slightly different
way.
My Mom-in-law was going to have a short hospital stay so I got a t-shirt that was a few
sizes big so it would be very loose and comfy. We wrote "Nana's Get Well
Shirt" on the front. Under that we did a happy scene with a sun and flowers and
grass. On the back my sons wrote comments for the nurses such as "Take good
care of my Nana" or "No shots allowed" It was quite a
conversation piece when she wore it at the hospital and during her home recovery too.
When Papa had to be in the hospital of course he needed one too. His was a little
different. It said "Papa's Get Well Shirt" but the back tail of the
shirt said "Needles This Way" with an arrow pointing down. Over his
incision in the front was a large Band-Aid and the words Ouchee!. We decorated the
sleeves, neckline and etc. with similar silliness.
All of this was done with child quality artwork by my sons making it even more fun and
endearing.

Just a note to say my mother-in-law took our childern one Christmas and made
tee's for us. She got them to put their hands in the paint and placed them on the shirts.
they were about 4 and 5 at the time. She helped them sign their names and dated them. Both
of us still have them,it's fun to look at them and see how big those little hands have
gotten. Now our childern are 9 (soon to be 10) and11(who thinks she's 20).Hope this brings
new ideas.

Your t-shirt craft sounds like a great idea! My children and I plan to make their
dad a tie with fabric paint. My kids, 5, 3, and 2, will place their hand prints on a tie
for dad to wear to church. We are going to also date the tie so in years to come he can
look back and see how much the kids have grown.

Hi! I just read your pattern for the "Dad's tee-shirt" and I
really thought this was cute. I have another idea I saw the other day. Take a
tee-shirt, do all you need to do to the other pattern, instead of drawing on it have the
little ones paint their hands and the bottoms of their feet with finger paint (with
another ingredient that makes it washable) and have them place their prints in the four
corners of the shirt with the date. Then in the middle write withe fabric paint the
sentiment you wish to issue. I thought this was wonderful especially for first time
"Daddies. Keep up the good work Cindy
A Child's Footprint
This craft features a great gift
for Dad on Father's day
or Mom on Mother's Day or a wonderful Christmas gift. This Footprint Craft includes
both the child's footprint, a nice momento, and a wonderful, touching poem. Write
the poem in the shape of a large footprint using waterproof marker. Using
watercolors or watered down tempera paints paint the child's foot and print it over the
written poem a couple of time. After all is dried laminate the piece of paper and attach
string on the back for hanging. |
