This week's Craft of the Week Feature's Flower
Power. In celebration of Spring, this activity is sure to bring color and light into
your home. It's very simple to do; even a four year old can have tremendous success
with this beautiful craft.
This is a fun little kid's project . All that is needed is a creative and fun imagination.
The pots can be personalized with names, favorite flowers, or sayings. You can plant
seeds in the pot or decorate them using silk flowers. Go wild!
What you need:
- Terra cotta flower pots
(any size you want)
- Acrylic paints
- Paint Brushes
- Disposable Plates
- Sponges- cut into smaller pieces to "paint" with
- Paint sealer spray
- Seeds
- Soil
- Spanish moss
- Artificial flowers
- Styrofoam
What you do:
- Decide on what you would like to paint on your pot. You can
draw the picture on the pot with a pencil if desired.
- The paints can be placed in the plates and using a
combination, or just one, paint with the brushes and sponges right onto the pot. The
sponges are terrific for a soft effect for such things as bushes, flowers, clouds etc...
- Once the pot is completely dried spray with sealer so paint
will remain permanent.
- Seeds and soil can be added to your pot and now you have the
beginnings of a garden!
- If you choose to use silk flowers: place a piece of
Styrofoam in the pot. Arrange the silk flowers flowers Spanish moss is placed over
the Styrofoam after the arranging to give a finished look.
Ideas from you
"Using stencils on the pot"
From: Andrea
First of all I'd like to say thanks for the wonderful website. I always
find great things here. I wanted to tell you that my daughter and I did somthing
similar to the flower power idea. Except we used stencils. I just taped the
stencils to the pot and let her blot the paintbrush over them. Stencils are so easy
to use and come out perfect everytime, so the kids never get frustrated. Thanks
again for creating such a great website!
Mosaic Flower Pots
Mosaic pots are just right for creating that springtime feeling ! They are so
simple to do and beauitful. This project can be done by kids who are 3 years old and
older. To give the pot a genuine mosaic look at least half of the area on the pot should
be covered by the broken tile pieces. The addition of "gems" gives the pots a
glorious, sparkling look. You can use other materials to decorate your pot suchas shells,
smooth stones, and dried beans. These are super for any gardener as a Mother's day or Easter
gift. |
