This crafts is super fun for all kids who are 4 years old and older : ) !

It is a good opportunity to talk about geometric shapes as the colors are put onto the paper. Triangles, rectangles, and circles are a great way to lay out the collage of hues.

Hidden Pictures is a magical experience with our everyday crayons that everyone will enjoy. It is certain to keep even the most active kids busy happy. I remember doing this in my third grade art class with Mrs. Wolchenock. I loved etching out the black coating and seeing my colors magically reappear !

What you need:

• Drawing paper- 8 x 11 standard size works well
• Crayons - lots of them and especially black
• Pencil or lollipop stick
• Newspaper - to cover work surfaces

What you do:

1. The entire paper should be colored using a fun array of bright colors. This is not a drawing but a collage of colors. There are no limits on the size or shapes of the colors. Encourage your child to make the colors vibrant and to press fairly hard to give rich colors.
2. Now take a black crayon and color the ENTIRE colored piece of paper with the black crayon. Make sure it is completely covered in black.
3. The magic begins - using the pencil or lollipop stick you can etch out a drawing from the now blackened paper. The etching will cause the buried colors to magically appear. I suggest discussing what kind of picture your child would like to draw before starting. Watch the colors bloom !!!
