This week's Craft of the Week
are Love Bugs. Valentine's Day is coming soon and these love bugs are perfect to
decorate your house or classroom.. These fun and easy butterflies can be made by
children who are three years old and older. We also have ideas from you on using markers
and also how to make a tie-dye effect.
What you need:
What you do:
- Decorate the filter with markers, color pencils and/ or
stickers. Using magic markers, draw a face on the clothespin.
- If you prefer, using red construction paper draw a large
heart and use this as your butterfly's wings.
- Slide filter in the opening/slit of the clothespin.
The filter or heart
will be the butterfly's wings. You may want to attach the "wings" with
tape or glue.
Ideas from you
Tie Dye Idea
From: Pamela

I worked in a camp over the summer and we made these butterflies using food
coloring and the mist setting on a spray bottle. we folded the filter in to a triangle
shape then twisted to get a tie-dye effect.
Easy coloring process

Another twist on the butterfly project to simplify the coloring process:
Have the kids place washable felt-tip marker dots all over the coffee filter surface,
using as many colors as they wish, placing them in patterns or at random. Using the
"mist" or "spray" setting on a water spray bottle, wet the filters
till the colors start to run together. The drying process may be accelerated with the aid
of a hair blow dryer.
Beautiful tie-dye effect
From Mom2AnM
I did this activity as a kindergarten teacher. We decorated the butterfly wings in a
different way and I would like to pass along the idea. You need colored water and an
eye dropper. Drop different colors onto the coffee filter and allow to dry.
The result is a soft, beautiful tie-dye effect!
Valentine Bookmarks
I have discovered that my own children
love to create and use their own markers. In fact, I believe that it inspires children to
read. It personalizes the book. There is nothing better than a child reading on her own;
choosing her own books and passionately exploring them.
Chocolate Turtles
Valentine's Day is just around
the corner. These Chocolate Turtles may be just the thing to make for your sweetie!
Heart
Magnets
These are terrific for the fridge and a
welcomed gift for any age. They can also be made into fashionable pins .
Attach pin backings to the heart instead of magnets. The craft "dough"
will keep unrefrigerated for up to 2 weeks when stored with a small piece of damp sponge
in a plastic bag or sealed container. This fun craft can be done with children of
any age starting from 4 years old and up. |
