momdaylogo.jpg (2747 bytes) fathersday.jpg (3265 bytes)
This week's Craft of the Week features a Mother's Day gift. Mother's Day will be here before we know it.  To show that you appreciate and love your mom why don't you make her this wonderful gift "bucket"?  mombucket.jpg (7277 bytes)After decorating the bucket, fill it with all the items your mom loves- perfume, candy, books, facial cream, lotions etc...  She'll love the gifts and the homemade container.  For the little ones you can paint the bucket white let it dry and then using another color of metal paint and place the child's hand in the paint to make handprints all over the bucket.  Not only will this be a terrific gift, but a perfect mom keepsake!

What you need:

  • giftmaking.jpg (15821 bytes)1 aluminum bucket - can be bought at any craft store
  • Metal paints - these are specific paints for metal surfaces
  • Paintbrushes
  • Newspaper- to protect your work surface
  • Party grass- to put in finished bucket
  • Gifts for mom- placed in the bucket along with the party grass.
  • Empty egg carton or paper plate to put paints in

What you do:

  1. Make sure the bucket is clean, remove any stickers, glue etc...  Paint the entire bucket white with the metal paints.  It may require 2 coats of paint.  You might want to paint the inside of the bucket too.  Let dry. Using a pencil lightly draw your picture or design onto the bucket.
  2. If you plan on making handprints decide on the color of metal paint to use for the prints.  Place some paint onto a paper plate and lightly put hand into the plate.  Then place hand onto bucket surface- repeat the pattern.
  3. After the white paint is completely dried and you have your design/picture on the bucket begin to paint.  When you are done painting let the bucket dry completely.
  4. Add the party grass and the gifts you have for mom.  These can even be her favorite homemade cookies.

A Child's Footprint
This craft features a great gift for Dad on Father's day or Mom on Mother's Day. This Footprint Craft includes both the child's footprint, a nice momento, and a wonderful, touching poem.  Write the poem in the shape of a large footprint using waterproof marker.  Using watercolors or watered down tempera paints paint the child's foot and print it over the written poem a couple of time. After all is dried laminate the piece of paper and attach string on the back for hanging.
