This week's Craft of the Week is brought to us from the popular
activity/craft book 365 Days of Creative Play by Sheila Ellison and Judith Gray. The
publishers of this book, Sourcebooks sent us here at Families First a copy of this
wonderful book and encouraged us to feature an excerpt.
365 Days of Creative Play is chock- full of excellent
crafts and play ideas for children starting from age 2 years and up. The list of
crafts in this book is endless- from napkin holders to various crafts taken directly from
nature. If you are having a children's birthday party or the kids are feeling the
summer doldrums, you must get this book !!
Pinwheels are so much fun to make and watch spin whether in the use or on a bicycle.
They can be a patriotic Fourth of July decoration if you use red, white, and blue colored
construction paper. Stickers are a great way to add sparkle to your pinwheel
What you need:
- Strong construction paper or wallpaper
- Long dressmaking pin
- Penny
- Pencil with an eraser or a thin dowel
- Crayons or felt pens
- Stickers
What you do:
- Cut the paper into a square shape - 6''x4'' works nicely.
- If using plain paper, now is the time to apply decorations
with crayons, felt pens and/or stickers. Draw in the diagonals, corner to
corner.
- Trace a round a penny in the center of the diagonal
lines. Remove penny and then cut along the diagonals from each corner to the
edge of the circle in the center.
- Fold (without creasing) each corner into the center and
fasten together with the pin. Stick the pin firmly into the top of the dowel or the
eraser of the pencil. Hold into the wind or attach to handlebars of bike..

Mosaic
Flower Pots
Mosaic pots are just right for creating that springtime feeling !
They are so simple to do and beauitful. This project can be done by kids who are 3 years
old and older. To give the pot a genuine mosaic look at least half of the area on the pot
should be covered by the broken tile pieces. The addition of "gems" gives the
pots a glorious, sparkling look. You can use other materials to decorate your pot suchas
shells, smooth stones, and dried beans. These are super for any gardener as a Mother's day or Easter
gift.
Flower Crafts
These are wonderful craft ideas that use can use as gifts or to
