This week's Craft of the Week features a wonderful Thanksgiving Tablecloth that the whole family can help make.  By taking an inexpensive white cotton tablecloth or purchase material to make the cloth, you can have everyone in your family mark what Thanksgiving means to them.

thanksgiving-t.gif (3645 bytes)You'll need to clear off a large space on the floor to do this project and to allow it to dry for a few hours.

Try and choose fall colors and colors that say Thanksgiving to you- orange, gold, brown, green, red etc...

If you want to include leaves as a print item you can get them from outside your house and trace them right on the material with the fabric paint or trace with a pencil and paint later.  Using real life items to inspire what prints you'd like to include is a great way to add diversity to this project.

What You Need:

  • Plain white table cloth
  • Fabric paint
  • Printing items- here are some suggestions:
    • Use potatoes to cut desired shapes into and use to print on the cloth.
    • Sponges- these can also put cut using scissors to make a great print for example a pumpkin.
    • Feathers
    • Corn Cob
    • Make a print of your hand and turn it into a turkey!

What You Do:

  1. Wash and iron the cloth first.  This will give you a nice flat surface to work on and any shrinking the cloth will do will have been done on this first washing.
  2. After placing the cloth on a clean wide space and laying down protective newspaper you can plan where to place your prints, what colors to use etc...
  3. If you are going to "dip" any of the printing items in paint you can use a paper or Styrofoam plate to put the paint on.
